Drinking alcohol socially is fine. However, if your alcohol consumption gets out of hand, will you notice? The fact is, drinking too much can cause serious and life-altering problems. It may even result in one or multiple DUI charges.

Understanding binge drinking

Binge drinking is a pattern of drinking to a point where your BAC reaches 0.08% regularly. For men, this is usually achieved with five drinks in approximately two hours, and for women, it’s four drinks in that same timeframe. You may be considered a binge drinker if you do this for a minimum of one day out of 30 each month. 

Understanding heavy alcohol use 

Heavy drinking for men is when you consume more than four drinks per day or 14 drinks per week and for women, it is consuming more than three drinks a day or over seven drinks each week. According to authorities, heavy alcohol use also occurs if you binge drink five or more days in a month. 

The dangers of heavy alcohol use

Drinking regularly can lead to many issues. It can cause health problems such as heart disease, system problems, gout, seizures, cancer, anemia, liver damage and nervous system issues. However, it can also result in serious accidents, and injuries to yourself or others if you decide to drive after drinking.
